8:15 Doors open. Parent/player Q&A. New players are encouraged to come at this time so we can answer your questions and help get your day off to a great start.  There is no check-in requirement this year. All registered players will be entered.

9:00 Round One for all sections will begin following announcements in the playing hall. Subsequent rounds are paired ASAP with a break for lunch. Awards ceremonies take place for each section ASAP after that section's final round is complete.

  • No eliminations! Every player plays every round.

  • Parents are not permitted in the playing room during rounds, and players must exit when their match is finished.

  • Mobile devices are prohibited on the tournament floor. If the player's device cannot be left with a parent or coach, it must be turned off and kept out of sight. Failure to comply could result in a forfeit loss.

  • It is the player's responsibility to know and understand the rules by which our tournaments are governed. We ask that all players and parents read OSCO's rules before the tournament.  Read them here and call/text (405) 642-6136 if you  have questions.

  • SCORESHEETS and pencils are provided. Notation is required in Premier and encouraged in all sections.

In a tie for first place, if there was a decisive head-to-head result (if the tied individuals played each other and the result was not a draw), that result is used. If there was no decisive head-to-head result, a G/5 blitz match is played to break the tie. If that game ends in a draw, the tied individuals play an armageddon blitz match: the player with the white pieces gets 6 minutes; the player with the black pieces gets 5 but need only draw the game to win.

Ties for awards other than first place

If two players are tied and there was a decisive head-to-head result, that result is used. Otherwise, OSCO uses the U.S. Chess-recommended order of computer tiebreaks. These are 1. Modified Median, 2. Solkoff, 3. Cumulative, 4. Cumulative of Opposition. Click here to learn about these tiebreak systems.
