On the Road Again

Destiny Sawyer for the second year running represented Oklahoma at the 2005 Polgar Invitational Tournament.   Destiny’s 4 points out of six rounds earned her a tie for 8th place out of 48 participants.  All 48 young ladies had won the right to play in this year’s Polgar event by winning state level competition. Congratulation’s, Destiny, on a doing a great job representing Oklahoma’s young chess ladies in last two years!

John Cope represented Oklahoma as the OSCO State Champion at the Denker Tournament of State Champions. Destiny and John both received $500 OSCO scholarships to help with tournament expenses.

Steve Sawyer took lots of great photographs at this year’s US Open in Phoenix.  It is obvious from all the smiles and fun in these pictures that OCA members, Jim Gray, John Cope, Anthony Paolercio, Charles Unruh, Destiny Sawyer and Chuck Unruh all had a wonderful time.  The Unruhs played very well in the side events with Charles placing 8th in the Senora Swiss and Chuck tied for 2nd in the G/30 Action Swiss.

Next year, the US Open is in Chicago and many of us are already marking our calendars.  For Games from the Polgar and US Open please visit the ochess.org website.
