OSCO Grand Prix Returns for 2005-6

OSCO is pleased to announce the return of the OSCO Grand Prix for the 2005-6 scholastic chess season. Participants in the six OSCO Grand Prix events will accumulate points until the Oklahoma State Scholastic Championship in March. The four Grand Prix scholarships will be based on grade level groupings K-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12. Grand Prix points awarded for each event will be based upon game points won, number of rounds and a difficulty multiplier based on the maximum rating allowed in the section.

The Oklahoma resident participant who has earned the most points in each Grand Prix division will be designated the OSCO Grand Prix winner for that division. They will also receive a scholarship that is likely to be over $200 (a fourth of $1 per player from all Grand Prix event organizers plus any donations to the general Grand Prix fund) to be awarded at the OSCO Oklahoma State Championship in March. The scholarships may be used by the winners for chess expenses as they deem appropriate. The Grand Prix awards are in addition to the OSCO Scholarships for the Denker and Polgar National Championships at the US Open, which were $500 each last year. The first OSCO Grand Prix tournament will be the 15 October Claremore Scholastic Open at Roosa Elementary in Claremore, followed by the OSCO Oklahoma Grade Championship 19 November at Claremore First Assembly of God. The third and fourth Grand prix events will be either end of the Turner Turnpike in Edmond and then at Jenks, in December and January.
