2005 OKC Winter Open

This event was held at the Quality Inn again; I guess I could call it a “heritage event”, but I think we hear enough of that. The turnout (20) could be attributed to the Berrys holding a tournament the same weekend with a $4400 guaranteed prize fund (vs. my $300 GTD). Kind of makes you wonder how long they’ll keep trying to buy the USCF state affiliate. All things considered, I was just happy that I didn’t lose money.

Ross Carbonell took first overall with a convincing 5-0 performance. The plaques were awarded to Chuck Unruh (Expert), Murshed Qurashy (A), Milt Strain (B), Walter Guthrie (C), Charles M. Unruh (D), and Trung Nguyen (E) in his first tournament. Charles Unruh played well, winning D class for undoubtedly the last time. Ross said his toughest game was against Charles.

Everyone seemed to have a good time, and that’s what counts. Thanks to all the entrants for their support.
