Weasel Talk

Welcome to Weasel Talk. Commentary on all the relevant and irrelevant chess in Oklahoma.
WARNING: These comments only resemble the truth! (Reference to OCF and the Oklahoma Chess Folderol or Oklahoma Chess Association are unintended and sheer coincidence.)

OCA and OSCO attendance is so low that Destiny Sawyer had to play training cohort Charles Unruh Jr. on Board 104 in the recent OSCO State Scholastic Tournament. The Weasel went to the source and OSCO reports a record year, attracting 100 participants or more at each of their seven tournaments, with over 200 at the State Championship!!

Weasel Team plays GM S. Polgar to draw (1 ½ :1 ½)  at Scholastic Simul in Dallas!

Don’t be fooled, only the Oklahoma Chess Folderol can make you King, Knight or award you any title within their imagination. Ever so humble, only titles awarded by this Organization will prevail in future Oklahoma Chess History. Yet for all their greatness, this bunch could only attract 28 Oklahoma chess players to a world class Dream Team Event.  Participation would have been less, if not for OCA board member and board member’s daughter playing in the tournament.

Attendance was so low at the recent 66 that the Weasel suggests lowering the annual classic to 22 as not to upset any of the senior TDs with unreasonable expectations. Members of the Oklahoma Chess Folderol were unavailable for comment at the tournament. What were the organizers thinking? Exclude, vilify and spin have their own results.

Charles Unruh in an effort to gain rating points is entering a National Scholastic tournament. Stating that his best ten years of school were in the fifth grade, he expects to enter the 1200 and below class.

The Weasel has announced its “Chess Coach” of the Century award early this century, since nobody will be able to top this in the next 95 years. Ida Freeman Elementary Chess Club’s players were recently reported in a Stillwater Chess Club’s quarterly publication to “have had absolutely no lessons beyond how the pieces moved.” Their Coach, David Nichols, has earned this award for miraculously imparting on his team, literally within days, the ability to go on to win 2nd Place Team at the 2-4 April National Elementary Championship in Pittsburgh, PA. Outstanding!!!

Weasel Team and Oklahoma Scholastic Competitors at the recent Dallas National Scholastic Tournament wish to thank TD Fred Roper for his time and service in helping make this a great event.

The ethics department of PETA  was contacted by S. Weasel after compassionate and inspiring remarks were made comparing Weasels to Chess Leadership in a recent chess bulletin. Weasels everywhere are offended and ask the bulletin to keep to Frogs.

An anonymous request was made for the 2004 OCA Annual Meeting to be rescheduled to 01:00 A.M. Sunday morning.   The OCA Policy Board promptly rejected the children’s request as many blurry-eyed voting adults require their sleep.

The Weasel has learned from a source high up in another organization of a plot to rig the upcoming OCA elections. The devious OCA, in a break from past tradition, will provide financial disclosure, proper ballots, respect for adults, teen and child chess players, and above all promise not to do a “Weasel Tizzy” if they are elected or not elected. The Weasel asks the serious question, How will Oklahoma Chess survive if we loose our Senior Rated Chess Player Policy Board Members? My friend “Chicken Little” reassures me the sky is not falling!

Optimistic Weasels with both cheeks swollen from repeated slapping are continuing their pacifist movement, in spite of diminishing supplies of olive branches. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma Chess Folderol is reported to be funding their offensive with sales of olive branch mulch.

The Weasel knows that Oklahoma Adult Chess membership is declining from the USCF statistics, and anyone that would criticize, belittle or degrade chess players are playing to a smaller audience all the time.  The tragedy of name calling and editorial abuse is self destructive to any organization!

The Weasel has faith that the revitalized OCA has the support of the USCF, is stronger, more inclusive and responsive to all of their membership.  The elections are soon! Please vote for your favorite Weasel or Frog at the annual meeting.  You decide!

If you wish to become an OCA Weasel (No Amphibians Allowed) and help Patron OCA members  Frank Berry , Jim Gray, Jim Berry , Chuck Unruh , Mike Swatek, and numerous others, please send all of your spare money to the Weasel or a brief humorous chess comment of good taste to “ Weasel Talk” in care of  www.OCHESS.org.   Lastly, if you want to help Oklahoma Chess, then become an OCA Patron Member!
