Wilson Scholastic Open

Oklahoma's year of scholastic growth began on September 30, as 193 students converged on Wilson Elementary in downtown OKC. Countless volunteers helped everything run very smoothly, and the weather cooperated for once! When it was all said and done, the tournament began on time, and anxious students were able to access their ratings the next day. Special thanks go out to Mike Swatek and Robert McDonough for their TD expertise. Wilson had a great time, and the PTA is already asking when they can do it again.

Probably more encouraging than the huge turnout was the number of new players. Of the 193 players, 75 were playing in their first rated event, and most of them have played in tournaments since.

OSCO's success doesn't happen on its own - it only comes from a lot of behind-the-scenes dedication and hard work. By supporting OSCO with your time and encouragement, OCA has ensured that the future --- make that the present --- of Oklahoma chess is alive and well.
