Help Elect Chuck Unruh and Jim Gray
for
Positive and Responsible USCF Chess
Leadership
Oklahoma’s
chess players need your help in the next USCF Delegate Election. After a very
light Oklahoma turnout for the
2004 USCF Delegate election, Frank and Jim Berry were able to claim a
surprising victory. Soon after at the USCF Delegates Annual Meeting, they
attempted to strip the OCA of its State
Chapter Affiliate with a Delegate’s Motion. This procedure was designed to bypass
all normal due process for such a change. It would have given the OCF the right
to conduct all Oklahoma State Championships and be responsible for leading all
chess in Oklahoma, including
scholastics. Fortunately, the USCF advised OCA
leadership of the developing situation. Chuck Unruh, Jim Gray,
Steve Sawyer and Mike Swatek
were granted unused Delegate positions by N. California,
Texas and Arkansas
to successfully defend against this attack.
Chuck Unruh and Jim Gray
participated in the 2005 USCF Annual Delegates Meeting and plan to do so again
in 2006 and beyond. Chuck is an active member of the USCF Finance Committee.
Being a long-time Master level player and a very successful businessman, he is
a valued member of this committee. Jim Gray is
an active member of the USCF States Committee which handles State and State
Chapter affairs. His involvement in this committee has helped to ward off
additional procedural moves by the OCF and add value in other USCF States
issues with his legal background.
Chuck and Jim have proven their Oklahoma chess leadership
skills with the revitalization of the OCA in
the face of continued OCF attempts to destroy it for almost 3 years. USCF
membership in Oklahoma is up 20% in the past two years and annual chess
tournament activity by Oklahomans has grown an amazing 8% in the past 4 months
alone. Today, Oklahoma chess is experiencing an unprecedented rate of growth
and is a bright spot in the middle of the nation for the USCF. This is the kind
of positive and responsible leadership that Oklahoma needs to contribute to the
USCF so it too can better meet it challenges.
PLEASE, don’t allow apathy to let the USCF Oklahoma Delegate
be taken by anyone that can muster a handful of votes from a few of their
friends. SUBMIT YOUR BALLOT which is being mailed separately by 10 June and
help assure Oklahoma has positive and responsible USCF Delegate Representation.
VOTE FOR CHUCK UNRUH and JIM GRAY.
Your support will be much appreciated by all Oklahoma chess
players that want to see the continuation of Oklahoma’s Chess Renaissance.
Thanks,
Your OCA
Leadership Team
