OCA Secretary’s Report – 26 June 2005

The Policy Board has had 3 Board Meetings on roughly quarterly intervals since the last Annual Meeting. Minutes of all meetings are posted at www.ochess.org/governance.

 

USCF State Chapter Affiliate – Last August Chuck Unruh, Jim Gray, Steve Sawyer and Mike Swatek participated in the USCF Annual Delegates Meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This team successfully defended against a hostile USCF Advance Delegates Motion by Frank Berry that would have designated the OCF as the USCF State Chapter Affiliate.

 

OCB – Three issues published since in the last year and expanded editions of the OCB are also available on the OCA website at www.ochess.org.

 

Website – The OCA website’s home page at www.ochess.org has had over 14,700 visits since 8 July 2003 with about 28 visits per day currently.

 

Historical Archive – This has not been turned over to the OCA.

 

Tournaments – 9 OCA tournaments have been conducted, including:

*2 Oct 04 OKC Oklahoma Team Championship with 44 participants

6 Nov 03 Oklahoma Blitz Championship with 16 participants

6-7 Nov 03 Oklahoma Class Championship with 30 participants

11 Dec 04 Quick Chess Your Way with 21 participants

8 Jan 05 Oklahoma Icicle Quads with 16 participants

*19-20 Feb 05 OKC Winter Open with 20 participants

*19-20 Mar 05 Tulsa Winter Open with 26 participants

7 May 05 Oklahoma Quick Chess Championship with 18 participants

25-26 Jun 04 Oklahoma Open State Championship with 47 participants

*OCF tournaments were scheduled in conflict with three OCA tournaments in the last year.

 

Membership

OCA: 124 total as of 25 June 05, including 22 Patrons and 41 Youth Members

OSCO: 218 Additional OSCO free memberships from two State Championships with 85 & 203 participants. There are many more OSCO adult volunteer members with scholastic clubs across the state. In the year ahead, OSCO membership will be back up with the resumption of its Grand Prix with free memberships for participation in any of six Grand Prix events.

 

Other

OSCO provided $1600 in scholarships for Oklahoma Scholastic Open Champions to participate in 2005 National Scholastic Tournaments.
